Bend CIty Council Meeting:

On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026, at the Bend City Council meeting, the City of Bend proclaimed the first Friday in June to be National Gun Violence Awareness Day. This is to “honor and remember all victims and survivors of gun violence and to declare that we as a country must do more to end this public health crisis.”

A few of the facts presented in the proclamation are as follows:

• Every day in the United States, 130 people are killed by gun violence, resulting in 19,000 homicides and over 27,000 suicides yearly.

• The leading cause of death for American children is gun violence, and over 3 million children in the US have witnessed gun violence.

• In Oregon, the rate of gun deaths increased by 25% from 2015 to 2024, which exceeds the national increase of 15%.

🧡 On the first Friday every June, we proudly wear orange in support of this proclamation.

La Pine Rhubarab Festival:

We enjoyed hanging out with the great people in La Pine for the Rhubarb Festival!

• Handed out 62 free gun locks
• Raffled away 6 free biometric pistol safes
• Purchased some delicious rhubarb + berry pie!! 🥧

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth! We love being part of the Central Oregon community.

Bring Gun Safety Conversations to Your Organization

We offer friendly, informative, and accessible presentations designed to meet people where they are.

Our talks help groups understand prevention in a respectful, non-judgmental way. Contact us to learn more.

Extreme Risk Protection Order Presentation

This presentation is designed for local community members seeking to understand the Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) law and how it can help protect their families. If you're concerned about a loved one who has access to a firearm and may be struggling, ERPO could be a valuable option. The session, lasting between 20 to 60 minutes, will be tailored to meet the specific needs of your group.

Safe Storage & Tough Conversations Made Easy

Our Be SMART presentation helps families and community members learn practical, approachable ways to keep kids safe around firearms. This session covers the importance of secure gun storage, why it saves lives, and how to have respectful but effective conversations with other parents about how guns are stored in their homes — especially before playdates and gatherings. Using the Be SMART framework (Secure, Model, Ask, Recognize, Tell), we walk through simple steps every adult can take to protect children and reduce unnecessary tragedies.

Talking With Patients
About Safety

Firearm injury is now the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States—and a growing cause of preventable harm for adults as well. This presentation equips health care providers with the knowledge and tools to engage in respectful, effective conversations about firearm safety with their patients.

This presentation is ideal for health care providers, public health professionals, and community partners who want to address firearm injury prevention through a public health lens.
